He was last heard from at 3 a.m. ET on Sunday morning after he and his uncle David Gandee, 48, told people they were going off-roading. Shain's body was found 31 hours after reported missing, and MTV confirms the identity of second body inside the vehicle as David. A local news station reports the third body has been identified as Shain's family friend Robert Myers. He was 27.
TMZ has reported that Shain and the two other deceased passengers may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed. According to local authorities, the bodies have yet to be removed from the truck because of the vehicle's location, which was found in a ravine.
MTV, the network behind Buckwild, has released an official statement, saying, "We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident. We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends."
The statememnt continues: "Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly."
