Once Upon a Time Captain Swan: Do Emma and Hook Have a Chance?

We know that Neal (Michael Raymond-James) is back in the picture now, and he’s all sweet and funny and the father of Emma’s (Jennifer Morrison) child, but we can’t stop thinking about the chemistry between Emma and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue). Remember early on in Once Upon a Time Season 2 when they were climbing beanstalks and taking down giants together? It was adorable. So, we’re here to make an argument for Team Captain Swan. Here are five reasons Emma should choose Hook.

1. The Banter

Good banter partners don’t come along everyday, and these two have it down. Just take this pre-beanstalk climbing scene from Season 2, Episode 6: “Tallahassee,” in which Emma warns Hook, “Don’t think I’m taking my eyes off you for a second.” Hook, not missing a beat, tells her, “I would despair if you did.”

Or the hospital scene from Season 2, Episode 12: “In The Name of the Brother.” First of all, we’re going to pretend that Emma has been sitting at the end of Hook’s hospital bed, watching him sleep for a while. Second of all, there is this exchange:

Hook: "My hook. May I have it back? ...Or is there another attachment you’d prefer."

Emma: "You’re awfully chipper for a guy who failed to kill his enemy, then got hit by a car."

Hook: "Well, my ribs may be broken, but everything else is still intact."

2. They’ve Both Been Hurt Before

These two are hard eggs to crack. Emma was abandoned by her parents as a baby and then abandoned by her first love, Neal. Sure, in both cases, they were doing it for her own good, but she didn’t know that at the time. Outcome: trust issues.

Hook, on the other hand, has a slightly more tragic story. He fell in love with Milah, Rumple’s wife. They ran away together, but when Rumple found out, he chopped off Hook’s hand and killed Milah. Outcome: lack of closure.

Maybe their respective baggage doesn’t seem like a point in their collective favor, but we think they can relate over their dark pasts. In this scene from “Tallahassee,” the two bond over their lost loves. Hook opens up to Emma about Milah, and Emma admits that she has been in love. Progress!

3. He Knows First Aid

Did we mention that, in the previous scene, Hook also bandages Emma’s cut-up hand? Okay, so he pours rum on it and it looks pretty painful, but he also uses his teeth to tie the bandage, so we say all’s well that ends well! He also manages to do all of that while outlining his plan for taking down the giant, which proves he’s a multi-tasker. Sounds like a pretty handy (pun!) guy to have around.

4. He’s Committed

Hook has spent the last couple hundred years avenging the death of Milah. That shows some serious commitment. If he shows even half that level of attention to a relationship with Emma, then we think they could have something special. Now that Hook has got some revenge on Rumple in shooting Belle (which, by the way, was not cool), maybe he’ll lay off this revenge thing for a while and concentrate on other things at hand (another pun!)...Yeah, we don’t think it’s highly likely either, but if anyone could make Hook forget about Milah, then it’s Emma.

5. He Wouldn’t Have Abandoned Her

Hook does not take the whole “Emma abandoning him in a giant’s lair” thing too well, re-forging his alliance with Cora and taking Aurora’s heart. We know that he’s not the most trustworthy sort, but we believe him in this scene from Season 2, Episode 9: “Queen of Hearts” when he tells Emma that, no, he would not have done the same thing to her.

We don’t believe him, however, when he tells Emma that he’s done with her. We think these two have more storyline to come, especially with the upcoming trip to Neverland. There’s nothing more fun than an enemies-to-lovers romance (Chuck and Blair? Logan and Veronica?), which is why we’re on-board the Captain Swan ship.
