Khloe Kardashian Fights Back Against Charity Scam Accusations

Khloe Kardashian and her husband Lamar Odom have come under fire for running a supposed charity scam, and now is speaking out against the accusations.

On April 2, Khloe took to her official blog to defend Lamar’s charity, asserting that her husband has been “the target of an attack,” and standing behind his foundation, Cathy’s Kids, and the work that it does.

On March 31, ESPN reported that not one penny of Cathy’s Kids’ $2.2M raised has gone to cancer research. Instead, at least $1.3M of that went towards financing two elite youth basketball travel teams

Khloe’s blog post does dispute the claim that none of the funds had gone towards cancer research. Instead, Khloe wrote that all of the money has been used “for one of the foundation’s intended charitable purposes.”

Though the mission of Cathy’s Kids does include goals of funding cancer research, the organization also focuses on “improving the lives of underprivileged children.” Khloe writes that Cathy’s Kids’ funding of the youth baseball teams is helping to, as she puts it, “enrich the lives of underprivileged inner-city youth.” She says that the basketball teams help put these kids “on a path toward success” that will lead “many participants to go on to college.”

Khloe is firm in her support of the foundation’s goals. “Not one penny went to help Lamar personally or any member of his family,” she writes.

What’s more, “No charitable funds were misused, and the IRS has repeatedly given Cathy’s Kids a clean bill of health, confirming that there were no improprieties.”

Khloe and Lamar’s charity isn’t helping cure cancer. Instead, it’s investing in the lives of inner-city youth using sports, something that is very close to the heart of basketball player Lamar. So what do you think: Was ESPN right to call out the charity for it’s lack of cancer research, or — like Khloe believes— are they attacking a perfectly good charity?
