As Wetpaint previously reported, Shain’s cousin, Ashley Gandee Lewis organized an off-roading event in Shain’s honor to help raise funds to cover the expected funeral expenses. "I know the strain they are going through," Ashley told TMZ. "It's hard to provide a proper burial. It's already tough with the loss of family members ... expenses are tough as well."
The even is scheduled to take place this coming Wednesday in Proctorville, OH. Money raised from the event — and the money sent to the Gandee family's PayPal account — will now go toward expenses incurred by Shain's family during the recovery effort. All remaining money will go toward funding the funerals of the other two men who perished tragically inside the truck, Shain's uncle David Gandee and family friend Robert Myers.
Despite the sudden grief and heartbreak, the Gandee family believes Shain died peacefully in his sleep.
“I spoke with the family and they feel in their hearts it was carbon monoxide," Ashley recently told Celebuzz. “They were at peace to know he probably just fell asleep and he wasn’t hurt or in any pain. They believe he just fell asleep and didn’t wake up. We are under the impression that the truck got stuck and they thought they would just rest until daybreak and they left the truck running to stay warm.”
Our thoughts go out to Shain's family and friends during this difficult time.
