Film Critic Roger Ebert’s Cancer Has Sadly Returned

This news definitely gets two thumbs down from us.

Film critic Roger Ebert has announced on his blog on April 2 that his cancer has returned, and so he will be taking some time off from his job with the Chicago Sun-Times.

Roger had been cancer-free for several years. Roger began his battle with thyroid cancer in 2006, and he eventually lost the ability to speak, eat, or drink along with part of his jaw to the cancer.

“It really stinks that the cancer has returned and that I have spent too many days in the hospital," he writes.

Roger hopes to still write film reviews from time to time.

"My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers handpicked and greatly admired by me," he continues. "What’s more, I’ll be able at last to do what I’ve always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review.”

Roger rose to fame on the movie review show Siskel and Ebert and later starred on Ebert & Roeper & the Movies following Gene Siskel's death in 1999.

We're wishing Roger a speedy recovery!
