“They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena,” a source says.
An Us Weekly source confirms that the 27-year-old actor doesn't wish the show ill will.
"He's sure the show will continue to do well, but as far as his character, he wasn't behind where it was going to end up," says the second source.
Now, the actor is hoping to have more time to branch into film.
"Chris was reluctant to do the show from the get-go," the source reveals. "He's a really great actor, the source material from the beginning was great, and he was grateful to Lena."
"But he's at a point now where he has too many great film parts being offered to him to turn them down for something he's not 100 percent satisfied with," adds the source. "He feels good about his decision."
Chris appears in the indie drama film Burma, which screened at SXSW last month. He was also in the 2011 indie hit Martha Marcy May Marlene.
But sadly, his time on Girls is done. Our hearts go out to all you ardent Marnie-Charlie shippers out there.
