The Voice 2013’s Holly Tucker Auditioned For Season 1, Talks Team Blake
When saxaphone-player-turned-country-singer Holly Tucker took The Voice Season 4 stage, she blew the coaches away her rendition of “Make You Feel My Love,” which earned her a four-chair turn.
But back in 2011, Holly tried out for Season 1 of the hit show and didn’t make it past the first round. Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the 19-year-old singer the day after her blind audition aired where she talked about her experiences on the show.
“I actually auditioned for Season 1 and the reason I did was because I saw the premise of the show that the coaches wouldn’t be able to see you,” she told us. “They would only judge you on your voice alone and your talent. And that just really appealed to me because I’ve been judged in the past. It’s something that you just have to get a thick skin and learn to deal with, which is what I think I’ve done over the past years.”
This time Holly had her pick of coaches and the country crooner naturally landed on Team Blake. Though the decision might seem like an obvious one, Holly admits that she really struggled at first.
“Obviously Blake was first in my mind and Adam was a great choice too because they both have experience on the show,” she said. “When I got on stage and I was hearing their comments, one that really touched me, probably the most, was Shakira and her comment about how before she could even see me, she heard how honest my performance was. And that’s the message I want to give when I’m singing. I want people to know that I’m being completely genuine and in the moment and my performance is completely for the audience. In the end, going with Blake was always where my heart was going to leave me because I am country and he is country and he knows that world the best.”
