American Idol 2013: Our Song Choices For Top 6 Week!

American Idol 2013 finalist Candice Glover tweeted the confirmation that one of the performance themes this week is songs from the Burt Bacharach/Hal David songbook. Alas, if you were hoping for something with a contemporary feel, you’re out of luck on that one!

However, now that there are only six hopefuls left, there are two performances this week, and the second theme is “Songs You Wish You’d Written”. At least there is a glimmer of hope that we will hear something from this decade!

Here is what we can see the American Idol 2013 Top 6 taking on this week:

The Burt Bacharach/Hal David Songbook:

Lazaro Arbos: Even though this theme is right in this guy’s wheelhouse, we can’t help but cringe when thinking about it. We just know he’s going to sing something like “A House Is Not A Home,” and a part of us is going to die inside.

Kree Harrison: Please, please, please, Kree–sing “Wishing and Hoping” for us. While this song is kitschy, she has the chops to turn it into special onstage.

Angie Miller: Picture this. Angie sits at the piano, delivering a tender rendition of “Close To You”. It could be cheesy by another singer, but we think she could pull it off for a big moment.

Amber Holcomb: Again, some of these songs could easily come off schmaltzy if sung by the wrong person, but we can see Amber making “I Say A Little Prayer For You” work. After her rendition of “My Funny Valentine” during the Las Vegas round, we know she has the old soul for this one.

Janelle Arthur: Oh boy, this theme could spell trouble for Janelle, who has already been at risk of going home. We can see her singing “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,” but we can also see that being a bit of a disaster.

Candice Glover: One can imagine that Amber and Candice arm wrestled over “What the World Needs Now” this week, but we kind of hope Candice wins. She could easily do something magical with her voice on this one.

Songs I’d Wish I’d Written:

Lazaro Arbos: We can see him going back to his comfort zone with “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” or possibly trying something contemporary like Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man”. Either way, we’re dreading it.

Kree Harrison: While we think most people will go with a contemporary number this week, we tend to agree with MJ Santilli of MJs Big Blog that Kree might do a Patsy Cline number. Perhaps a little “Walkin’ After Midnight”?

Angie Miller: If Angie Miller sings Rihanna’s “Stay” at the piano, she could run away with this competition with one single performance. It’s technically a duet, though, so we’re not sure she’ll do it.

Amber Holcomb: She’s drawn comparisons to Whitney Houston every week, so perhaps she’ll just embrace it and do a Whitney number. We can see her going with “Greatest Love Of All”.

Janelle Arthur: After what we can only imagine might be a bit of a nightmare during the first round, we can see Janelle making a huge comeback in the second round by singing something like Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart”. It could be absolutely magical.

Candice Glover: She’s got the world at her fingertips with this theme, as her powerhouse vocals could do justice to so many songs. She was amazing with Alicia Keys’ “Girl On Fire,” so maybe she’ll give us a little “If I Ain’t Got You”.

What songs can you see the American Idol Season 12 Top 6 performing on Wednesday?
