Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 19: 5 Prom Moments to Get You Ready

Prom season is upon us, and not just for us mere mortals. The gang over in Mystic Falls is getting ready for the main event, too! Dresses are being chosen, dates are being finalized, limos rented, flowers purchased, and hearts the world over go pitter pat. That is, provided they can still beat.

Will Elena (Nina Dobrev) go to Prom? Who will escort Caroline (Candice Accola) and will her stress-levels remain at a minimum? (She is the party planning queen, after all.) Will Damon (Ian Somerhalder) drop in and spike the punch? Will Matt (Zach Roerig) meet a human girl to date and maybe stop crying in his truck so much? Will Rebekah (Claire Holt) cajole Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) into taking her if only for the experience and will she ever live down the ridicule of having to take her brother as a date?

There are just so many questions left unasked and unanswered! How will we make it until the show returns on April 18? Here’s an idea: Let’s revisit some prom moments on screens both large and small for some of the best or worst moments in entertainment:

1. It can’t get any worse than this. Literally.

Carrie, 1976: Sissy Spacek stars in this horror classic inspired by the work of scream-master Stephen King. Carrie, a bullied girl with a fanatical mother, reaches her breaking point when her tormentors cover her in pig’s blood at prom. They are all in for a surprise. Turns out, she is telekinetic — and murderously rageful.

2. Duckie was clearly superior.

Pretty in Pink, 1986: Before she was the pretty, popular girl in The Breakfast Club, Molly Ringwald broke our hearts as Andie, the girl from the wrong sides of the tracks in love with wet noodle, preppy Blaine. While Blaine is swayed by peer pressure into dissing Andie, she won’t let it keep her from the big night — swanning into the auditorium in a pink dress she made herself.

3. Romance, now with platinum tips.

Saved By The Bell, 1990: Zack and Kelly 4EVA! Remember that time Bayside’s perfect-faced Kelly had to skip Prom, not having the money for a dress when her dad lost his job? And then remember how Zach gave her A PROM PICNIC OUTSIDE HER HOUSE? No? Then go find this classic episode and give it a watch; we promise you won’t be disappointed.

4. Vampires historically love proms.

Twilight, 2008: Oh, Edward and Bella and your travails. If Bella had had her way, Edward would have made her a vampire in book one. While this would have made her happy it would have made us miserable. Luckily for us, Edward is beyond hooked on the idea of Bella having all the requisite human experiences. As such, we get to see them dance all cute and stuff in the out of doors. Love it!

5. Sometimes, the name says it all.

Worst.Prom.Ever, 2011: If anyone knows a good party when they see one, it’s the folks over at MTV. So courtesy of those folks, we bring you Worst.Prom.Ever, the televised adventures of Clark, Neve, and Heather. All three are ditched by their dates and end up being hijacked by a crazed limo driver making several hilarious pit stops, including a brief stay in jail. Definitely not your average prom night, but also definitely memorable!
