Nashville TV: Season 1 Cut Down to 21 Episodes — A Bad Sign for Renewal?
Doesn't this feel just like a canceled Rayna James concert? ABC has just slashed the episode count for the first season of Nashville to 21 episodes (instead of the customary 22).
But don't go picketing the ABC offices yet: It's not the network's fault! As The Futon Critic reports, the cut is simply a result of the production running behind. Apparently the producers don't think they can finish 22 episodes by the show's May 22 finale.
What is ominous is that the episode which aired last night, April 10, marked the least-watched installment of the show to date, with just a 1.6 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
Still, TV By the Numbers rates the show as "likely to be renewed," since Nashville's rating decline lines up with ABC's ratings decline — meaning it's just that people aren't watching the network as a whole as much.
So, yes, Nashvillians, we're feeling a little worried... but we've learned to never underestimate Rayna and Juliette!
