Inside Cory Monteith’s Substance Abuse: “It Was More Than Booze”

Glee's Cory Monteith (Finn) shocked fans when he made the announcement that he was entering rehab for substance abuse on March 31, and it sounds like his loved ones were just as surprised as everyone else!

According to a new report from People, Cory (who's dealt with addiction in the past) seemed carefree and stable in the weeks leading up to his rehab stint. He and his girlfriend, Glee's Lea Michele (Rachel), even hit up Vancouver for a friend's wedding on March 16, and sources say Cory was relaxed and happy. "He had his arm around Lea, and they were laid-back, friendly, genuine," the wedding's officiant, Shawn Miller, tells People. "They seemed chilled out and happy."

A few weeks later, Cory surprised his family and fan base by ditching the finale episodes of Glee and checking into rehab — but what is he addicted to? "It was more than booze," a source reveals. "This latest slip came as a surprise. But people seem pretty certain he'll get better. He's been down this road before."

People didn’t speculate on what sort of substances Cory struggled with, but Us Weekly has previously said that cocaine was his biggest issue. Cory was admitted to rehab in Canada more than 10 years ago, and luckily he has a huge support system surrounding him this time 'round. Not only does Lea have her man's back, Cory's fellow Gleeks have been nothing but encouraging. We're sure that with their support he'll be back in action and healthier than ever in no time!
