American Idol Ratings See A Slight Rise For the Second Night In A Row
If you’ve looked at American Idol ratings over the past season on a bar graph, it wouldn’t be pretty.
There has been a steady decline, week after week but, alas, they may have hit a plateau. While that doesn’t sound like a positive thing, it is for the long-running reality show. Wednesday night, the ratings saw a slight boost, and Thursday’s results show saw a minor rise as well.
With a 3.1 rating, Idol was up two tenths from last week. Because the boost is so minor, the ratings aren’t exactly on the upswing, per se, but the show has managed to stop the bleeding.
One thing that worked in FOX’s favor was CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, which usually crushes Idol, was a repeat. FOX won the night, with a 2.7 rating and 9.772 million viewers. CBS came in second with a 1.9 rating and 8.986 million viewers. NBC was third with a 1.5 rating and 3.531 million viewers. ABC was fourth with a 1.2 rating and 4.192 million viewers. And the CW brought up the rear with a 0.3 rating and 0.942 million viewers.
The one-two punch of American Idol and Glee might be doing the trick, or perhaps word has gotten out that the girls this season have vocals that are unparalleled on the show thus far. If the rumors are true about a big shakeup at American Idol for season 13, it will be interesting what kind of effect, if any, it has on the ratings.
