“I Need a Hero” Avengers Tee For Girls Slammed as Sexist
The multimillion dollar Avengers franchise is a huge deal in grade school, targeting young boys and girls who want to be Iron Man, Black Widow, and Thor. But these Marvel tees are getting double-takes from parents.
A Disney Store tee meant for young boys feature their favorite action stars and the phrase “Be a Hero,” while the junior girls’ tee available at Super Hero Stuff — at almost $8 more than the boys’ version — advertises, ”I Need a Hero.”
While these images side-by-side look incredibly suspect, the fact that they’re being sold on separate sites suggests that Marvel probably didn’t intend for this discrepancy. Is it just us or do you also hear Bonnie Tyler’s hit “Holding Out for a Hero” when you read the phrase from the girls’ tee? At any rate, we’re not sure we’d want our daughters wearing it.
We want to know what you think: Are these Marvel Avengers tees deliberately sexist? Sound off below!
