Women Should Be “Submissive” to Their Husbands, Says Which Sexy Celeb?
A certain celebrity might not be riding a wave of female support anytime soon.
Model and pro volleyball star has raised eyebrows with her new book, in which she says that women should be "submissive" to their husbands.
"To truly be feminine means being soft, receptive, and — look out, here it comes — submissive," the 43-year-old Gabrille writes in her new book, My Foot Is Too Big for the Glass Slipper.
Gabrielle has been married to 49-year-old surfing legend Laird Hamilton for 15 years, and the couple have a nine-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.
Gabrielle further explained her seemingly old-fashioned viewpoint on NBC's Today on April 12.
"I think the idea of living with a partner is 'How can I make their life better?'" she says. "So if I'm the woman and he's the man, then yes, that's the dynamic."
"I'm willing and I choose to serve my family and my husband because it creates a dynamic where he is then in fact acting more like a man and masculine and treating me the way I want to be treated," Gabrielle continues. Uh... okay.
She says she doesn't see being submissive as a bad thing.
"I dont think it’s a sign of weakness," Gabrielle says. "I think it’s a sign of strength."
She and Laird got hitched in 1997, and they filed for divorce four years after the wedding. However, they patched things up two years later.
In addition to her pro volleyball career in the mid-'90s, Gabrielle has modeled for Elle and appeared in Playboy in 2001.
If nothing else, Gabrielle certainly knows how to get publicity for her book.
