AMC’s Hell On Wheels Moved to Saturday

Hell on Wheels has been wheeled over to Saturdays for Season 3, which starts August 3.

This marks a third day of original programming for AMC, which runs shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead on Sundays, with shows like Comic Book Men on Thursdays.

Saturday used to be a death sentence for a TV show, but it may actually be a smart move for Hell on Wheels since Saturday is now western day for the cable network.

"A new episode of 'Hell on Wheels' on Saturday night after a full day of western fan favorites is going to be like the saddle on top of the horse," AMC president and general manager Charlie Collier said in a statement (via Zap2it). "This is a programmer's dream — to have a genre-specific, 14-hour lead-in to one of your highest rated originals. We are so excited about this opportunity to entertain AMC's audience in a new way."

BBC America has a successful Supernatural Saturday lineup, so it's possible this genre package is just what the doctor ordered for AMC. Hell on Wheels reportedly drew just over 3 million viewers on Season 2, so we'll have to see if the move bumps up its numbers, or sends it riding off into the sunset.
