When The X Factor judge Demi Lovato stopped by 92.3 NOW in New York to discuss the upcoming auditions for in NYC for the third season, she was cornered by twin sisters Lulu and Lala from Ty Loves NY. The duo asked Demi for tips on auditioning for the show. Among other nuggets of wisdom, Demi shared the following info for all those people out there aspiring to advance on the singing competition.
"I hate to sound superficial, but a lot of it is the look. Do you have an interesting look? Are we going to remember you? That is the very first thing that I notice. Because sometimes in that “look”, people have a twinkle in their eye. And if they don’t have that twinkle, then see ya!”
Demi was then asked about the first performance and which aspect of the performance was most important: voice or stage presence?
"Your voice is very, very important. But I think what separates X Factor from other audition shows is that it has a lot to do with how you carry yourself on stage and how you are as an entertainer, because if you make the judges feel energized, we have long days, so it's refreshing to see someone come in and blow our minds."
Then, Demi was asked about the real issue above all other issues, which is Simon Cowell's judgment and how to connect with him and get his attention.
"Simon's a tough cookie. You have to definitely strut your stuff on stage."
So to recap: Have a look, be refreshing, and strut your stuff if you want to get Simon's blessing and advance on The X Factor.
