Dancing With the Stars 2013: Val and Maks Chmerkovskiy Showcase Brotherly Banter

We've missed a lot of things about Maksim Chmerkovskiy on Dancing With the Stars this season, and though it was mostly his abs, a close second is his ridiculous banter with brother Val.

Thankfully, when Maks made his triumphant return in Season 16, Week 5 for the competition’s side-by-side dances, we got a lot of said banter, which may tide us over until he appears on the show again. (And from the sounds of it, that could be sooner than we think!)

On last night’s episode, we got a behind-the-scenes look at what Val’s partner Zendaya had to deal with during rehearsals — a lot of bickering, some weird sibling stretching help, and bringing their entire family into the fight.

“When something’s wrong with him, I get bitched at, like it’s my fault,” Maks tells Zendaya as he helps Val stretch his legs. “I get bitched at because I’m ‘supposed to watch after him,’ or something like that.”

Val quickly interjects, asking, “And when something goes wrong with you, what happens to me?” to which Maks retorts, “The same thing, but I don’t let anything go wrong with me!”

The younger Chmerkovskiy was ready with a zinger, replying, “Bro, you’re one big wrong already! For my whole life.” And that’s when the fun really started.

“I swear to god, I’m going to call mom. I’ll tell her your back hurts,” Maks threatens. “If I tell mama your back hurts, it’s game over for you. Somebody’s flying out.” That being said, he was still helping Val as he said all of this.

“If I tell papa that you came an hour and a half late to rehearsal, there’s going to be something wrong with you,” Val adds. “Punctuality. End result!”

Though Maks echoes his sentiment, repeating, “End result!” Val gets the last word in, delivering yet another zinger: “You look like a gondola rider.” And this is coming from the guy who pretended to ride in a gondola during a recent performance!
