Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 19 Spoilers: Does Belle Have Amnesia?
Things are got heated (in a “We both love Once Upon a Time” sort of way) on Twitter between OUAT co-creator Adam Horowitz and a critical Rumbelle fan. The subject? This Sunday’s episode (Season 2, Episode 19: “Lacey”) that will delve into Belle’s (Emilie de Ravin) character post-forgetting her identity. The aforementioned fan is none too pleased about it:
“What is the point of the whole "Lacey" sub-plot?” tweeted Ivana Adriana at Adam. “I really don't get why the amnesia thing was necessary in the first place.”
“It's the story we wanted to tell. Why is any story needed?” replied Adam.
“The amnesia trope is just unfortunate altogether,” responded Ivana. “We had Belle (who we adore), yet now we're saddled with Lacey. Not great.”
“Who said it's amnesia. Don't make assumptions,” said Adam.
We can understand where this fan is coming from. There have been many subplots this season that have been neglected and/or taken away from the main storylines and themes we care about, but is Belle’s non-amnesia one of them? We’ll have to wait and see how well it ties in with the rest of the OUAT world.
As for the insistence that Belle is not suffering from amnesia, is this an allusion to Regina’s efforts to give Belle fake memories? In this sneak peek for the episode, Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) tells Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) that Regina has “jogged” Belle’s memories so that “she now thinks she’s a scantily-clad barfly called Lacey.”
Do you think the Lacey subplot is unnecessary? Let us know in the comments below!
