Watch the New York Yankees’ Touching “Sweet Caroline” Tribute to the City of Boston (VIDEO)
On Tuesday, one day after the Boston Marathon bombing, the New York Yankees honored their biggest rivals, the Boston Red Sox, by playing the song “Sweet Caroline” in Yankee Stadium.
In a video posted on YouTube, the entire stadium sang along to the unofficial Red Sox anthem to show their support following the tragedy.
Neil Diamond’s hit song has been linked to the Red Sox ever since the late ‘90s, when the ballpark began playing it before the bottom of the 8th inning. Since then, it’s been a tradition that every good baseball fan knows about.
The touching tribute seems to have inspired teams all over the country, as Neil Diamond has been personally tweeting thank yous from his Twitter account to the Yankees, L.A. Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, and Oakland Athletics for playing “Sweet Caroline” in honor of the city of Boston.
