Pitch Perfect-Like Reality Series Coming From American Idol Producers

Pitch Perfect, the a cappella blockbuster from last year, is adding a TV reality series to its list of accomplishments, which include an already confirmed sequel.

19 Entertainment, which produces American Idol, and its parent company Core Media are partnering with Varsity Vocals to develop a reality show chronicling the nations's top a cappella tournament.

Amanda Newman, executive director of Varsity Vocals, said the series "will follow the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, through the whole tournament series." This means that viewers would get to see the local, regional, and final rounds of the competition, providing the Pitch Perfect die-hard fan an amazing viewing experience.

Deadline reported that Newman announced the partnership Saturday at the ICCA International finals in New York City.

“The idea is to show what you saw in Pitch Perfect, which was based on a true story about our tournament,” Newman says. “It’d show the groups going through all the rounds of the tournament leading up to the finals, and also show a bit of the students’ backgrounds."

If you're worrying about a possible remake of NBC's The Sing-Off, have no worries. Newman says the project is not scripted will not mirror a reality competition show at all.

Fans of the crowd-pleasing 2012 movie starring Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson should be thrilled for this venture, since it is basically a real-life version of the movie.

The only thing left is to make Rebel the host. That can happen, right?
