Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Did Lydia McLaughlin Steal Her Real Housewives Tagline?

It was our first look at Lydia McLaughlin on Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8, Episode 4. Before Alexis Bellino introduced her to the group, she debuted her tagline along with all the other Housewives.

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough,” the mother of two said. Good line! But it sounded familiar...

A little Googling proved that the quote is attributed to actress Mae West. Known as a sex symbol and for her clever bon mots — she once said, “I used to be Snow White, but I drifted,” — she seems an unlikely idol for wholesome Lydia.

Alexis described her friend as a “Christian on steroids,” while Mae was literally in a movie called I’m No Angel.

We doubt we’ll be hearing Lydia say anything like another famous quote from the screen star: “I didn't discover curves; I only uncovered them.”

Is it no big deal that Lydia borrowed her line, or would you have preferred her to come up with something original?
