Gossip Girl Creators Developing New Show — Will You Watch?
You guys. You guys. It’s been over four months since Gossip Girl crammed a couple weddings, a non-funeral, and some serious loose ends into the Season 6 finale. But guess what — we won’t have to satisfy our Chuck Bass-shaped hole (don’t even) with Gossip Girl: Acapulco after all! Yep, that’s right folks, Gods of the small screen Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are creating a new show for us!
So, what is it? Gossip Girl meets Los Angeles? Nah, we already saw what the UES looked like in sundresses when Serena worked as a production assistant that one summer. Will we get that spin-off we’ve been dying for wherein Blair and Georgina form a private eye company? We could call it “Right on the Heels” or something equally cheeky and terrible.
Nope, what we’re getting isn’t exactly clear. But at the E! upfronts this week, it was announced that Steph and Josh are working on something that sounds pretty rad — Laurel Canyon. The show is about a young woman returning to the Hollywood Hills neighborhood with her son to be with her dysfunctional, extended family after her rock-star legend dad passes away. Um, not exactly a day at Bergdorf’s, but we’re intrigued.
The last Schwartz-Savage produced show, Cult, was much hyped when first discussed last year, but failed to launch and has already been canceled. As of now, Laurel Canyon is still in development and hasn’t been cast. But considering Blake Lively hasn’t been onscreen in a while, we’d love to see her considered for the part...
Previous projects The O.C. and Gossip Girl made icons out of unknown actors. It seems likely then that Laurel Canyon will be another chance for us to get to know a new crop of hot young talent.
