January Jones may have spent the last few months dodging rumors about getting between Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, but on last night’s episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, the Mad Men star was more concerned with talking about Betty Draper than Hannah Montana.
“You spent some time in [New York] before acting, right?” asked Jimmy.
“I moved here when I was 18, so ‘96 to ‘99,” she explained. “My idea of what New York was was that people were going to be rude to me, which I had hoped for.”
“The night I arrived... I went down from my apartment... I ordered a piece of pizza and an orange pop and the lady was very angry,” explained January. “She wouldn’t serve it to me until I said ‘soda.’ I giggled all the way through it. I thought it was awesome.”
As for her role as Betty on Mad Men, she’s not relying on orange soda and pizza to give her character its trademark fuller figure.
“We have a great prosthetic team... I have a suit that makes me look heavier. It’s very time-consuming,” she revealed. “Last year, it took something like six or seven hours. This year, we’ve got it down to two or three.”
“I’ve heard that fans are liking you more with a little more weight on you,” added Jimmy.
“I think the character itself, Betty, is an overall happier person when she gets to eat,” she replied.
