Lauryn Hill In Court For Tax-Evasion Sentencing — Is She Homeless?

Lauryn Hill is facing "that thing" that she probably wishes would go away: tax-evasion charges.

The 37-year-old R&B singer appeared in court on April 22 to face a punishment for the charges, but the sentencing has been postponed until May 6, according to E! Online.

She pleaded guilty last summer to not paying taxes on her $1.8 million earnings from 2005 to 2007.

Lauryn owes $554,000, with her attorney saying she has paid off $50,000 of it so far.

"This is not someone who stands before the court penniless," the judge said this week. "This is a criminal matter."

The judge is now giving Lauryn two weeks to pay the amount she owes.

Meanwhile, the singer has taken to Tumblr to address rumors that she is homeless.

"I'd like to set the record straight: I am not squatting, and I do not owe any money to my landlord," she writes. "I have always stayed current on rent."

Lauryn has six children, five with Bob Marley's son Rohan.

She burst onto the music scene as part of the Fugees and released her massively successful debut solo album in 1998, which won five Grammys. She is known for hits like "Doo Wop (That Thing)."

However, she dropped out of the public eye after that and writes that she felt it "necessary to withdraw from society in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of [her family]."

We're hoping these extra two weeks will help Lauryn get everything straightened out and avoid jail.
