Midas Whale’s Jon Peter Lewis Sings Elvis Presley on The Voice and American Idol: Which Is Best? (VIDEOS)

On the April 22 episode of The Voice 2013 battle rounds, folk duo Midas Whale (made up of Jon Peter Lewis and Ryan Hayes) battled blues singer Patrick Dodd while singing Elvis Presley’s “Burning Love.” Midas Whale won and it’s no surprise considering this isn’t Jon Peter Lewis’s first time singing an Elvis tune on national television.

Back in Season 3 of American Idol, JPL made it to the Top 8 and his swan song was Elvis’s “Jailhouse Rock.”

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the singer the day after his battle round aired where JPL admitted that Elvis might be his “unintentional” good luck charm.

“We didn’t choose that song, that’s the song that Adam chose for us,” Jon Peter Lewis said. “I love Elvis, I love doing his songs. It was fun for me to do it in the style that was different than the way Elvis had done it.”

Obviously we preferred JPL’s seasoned sound from last night’s battle to his exit performance from Idol more than 9 years ago. The bluegrass take on “Burning Love” was refreshing and took us out of the typical cliche competition tunes.

But which do you prefer? Watch both performances (the Idol performance starts at the 8:05 mark) and tell us what you think below!
