Jenelle Evans Arrested For Felony Heroin Possession: How Will She Plead? — Exclusive
Teen Mom 2's Jenelle Evans was arrested on April 23, 2013 in North Carolina on suspicion of heroin possession after a physical altercation with her husband, Courtland Rogers. While Jenelle's certainly no stranger to trouble (she's been arrested a total of eight times), this particular charge — a felony in the state of N.C. — is in a different class than her previous run-ins with the law, all of which were misdemeanors.
Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with Jenelle's lawyer, Dustin Sullivan, to get the scoop on what's next for the Teen Mom 2 star as she faces the most serious charge of her life.
"The State will most likely continue the case on May 14, 2013," Dustin revealed. "She will not have to enter a plea of not guilty or guilty on that day. It will just be continued since it is a felony in District Court. This is common for all cases like this in our jurisdiction."
In terms of how Jenelle will eventually plead, Dustin wouldn't explicitly say — however, he is confident that "the truth will come out over time."
"The District Attorney assigned to these types of felonies is by far one of the best in N.C. As the evidence comes in regarding this case I am confident he and I will be able to discuss the options of the case amicably," he said.
Various news outlets are reporting that Jenelle will attempt to fight the drug charges (which also include Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance) by proving that Courtland set her up, but Dustin would neither confirm nor deny those claims.
In terms of the other charges — Cyberstalking (filed by Gary Head) and Simple Assault (with Courtland as the State's witness) — Jenelle is due back in court on May 20 and June 3, respectively.
"We anticipate to go forward with a not guilty plea on both May 20, 2013 and June 3, 2013 for those charges," Dustin concluded.
Sounds like Jenelle (and Dustin!) have a busy summer ahead of them. Stay tuned to Wetpaint Entertainment for more developments on Jenelle's latest legal woe.
