Dancing With the Stars: Should Stevie Wonder Do the Show?

The theme of the Dancing With the Stars Season 16 Week 6 Performance Show was Stevie Wonder Night. One person who really enjoyed it was Stevie himself, who said he’d love to compete on DWTS. The 62-year-old music legend definitely fits the bill as a (HUGE) “star,” but he would be the first blind contestant on the U.S. version of the show. Would it be a good idea to cast him? On the Red Carpet asked some DWTS pros to weigh in, and they saw both sides of the issue.

The female pros seemed excited about the idea — and since they would be the ones dancing with him, that’s a good sign. Peta Murgatroyd said she would love to dance with Stevie, adding that one of her good friends in Australia has the first blind contestant on DWTS in Australia and she’s having an amazing experience.

Sharna Burgess said it would be "incredible" to dance with Stevie, also referencing the Australian DWTS version that has a blind contestant. She thinks Stevie would have so much rhythm: "I'll take you, Stevie!" Similarly, Kym Johnson also told OTRC she would "absolutely love" to dance with Stevie on DWTS.

However, two of the male pros were more cautious. Mark Ballas said it would definitely be challenging, but not impossible. He'd love to see Stevie on the show but they'd have to be smart about the pairing and pick someone responsible. He compared it to when they had Marlee Matlin, who is deaf, on DWTS Season 6. She was partnered with Fabian Sanchez, and Mark said he was the perfect pro for her.

Val Chmerkovskiy seemed to be the least sure about Stevie as a contestant. "I think Stevie Wonder has an incredible sense of humor, and it was a pleasure to have him in the audience and obviously his presence last night was a gift,” Val said, before getting to the but... section. “I think he's a little too big for this show, to be honest. And any pro that would have him would probably have a heart attack the first day. It's a huge responsibility. I think it would have to be like a team dance every time Stevie Wonder came out."

What do you think? Would Stevie be a good casting choice for DWTS Season 17?
