What’s not to love? Well, we’ll miss Klaus menacing Mystic Falls and romancing Caroline (Candice Accola), but both Joseph Morgan and executive producer Julie Plec agree it’s time for the big bad to move on.
The EP explained to Give Me My Remote, “the greatest struggle as writers of this show is we like our villains to be on the good guys’ team more often than not.” That means Klaus simply can’t be as bad as he wants to be when he’s busy not killing the show’s main trio.
Joseph Morgan told Wetpaint Entertainment it might be hard for the hybrid to go back to Mystic Falls in Season 5 if The Originals doesn’t get a series order.
“I understand his reason for staying behind in Mystic Falls so long with unfinished business, and we've seen him pack his stuff about three times and then not quite leave,” says Joseph. “For me, the idea of a 1,000-year-old being choosing Mystic Falls as a place to live or to settle down is not as realistic as somewhere like New York or London or Paris or New Orleans.” As JoMo points out, Klaus loves the finer things in life, and Mystic Falls just isn’t a cultural epicenter.
Let’s all hope The Originals gets picked up and Klaus can sink his teeth into a city with a little more vim and vigor.
