The Voice 2013’s Amy Whitcomb Talks Montages: “It’s Been Very Frustrating”

The Voice 2013 has its fair share of talented contestants, however, with so many contestants and so little time, we barely get to see a few of them. Pop/rock vocalist Amy Whitcomb has been montaged for not only her blind auditions, but for her battle round performance against former contestant Agina Alvarez. When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the performer, she recounted how frustrating the ordeal was.

“Honestly, it’s been very frustrating,” said the Team Adam member. “This is frustrating because I’ve put in just as much work as everyone else that’s been aired, and not getting as much exposure.” Furthermore, we learned from Amy that the contestants whose performance are lumped into a 10 second reel aren’t even warned ahead of time about it!

“We do get a little blindsided by the montages,” Amy said. However, the singer she says she’s “working hard to make sure the contestants know in advance just so they can prepare their family and friends and fans because there’s a lot of disappointment that comes with that.”

A lot of Amy’s frustration also stems from her vastly different experience on The Sing-Off where she got “a lot of face time” she was grateful for. But Amy isn’t bitter. No, really, she isn’t! The leopard-print jumpsuit wearing songstress understands that things need to be done in order to make the show as great as it can be.

“It’s been a wonderful experience behind the scenes for me growing as an artist and musician,” she said, “so even though I really would love for America to hear me sing, I’ve still been learning quite a bit so hopefully it will still open doors and create new opportunities for me.”

At the end of the day, Amy says “there’s a lot of contestants, there’s a lot of talent, and so it’s bit of shock when it happens, but you know you have to dust it off and keep on going.”

Now that the show has advanced to the knockout rounds, we sincerely hope to see more of Amy, and the other montaged singers!
