Did Glee Just Imply Darren Criss and Chris Colfer Aren’t Friends?
Glee fans love the idea of Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) as a couple. And since the adorable duo otherwise known as Klaine seems so perfect together, plenty of fans are enthralled with the idea of actors Chris Colfer and Darren Criss being best pals in real life, as well.
There’s just one problem — no one is convinced that they actually are. The CrissColfer fandom might be a huge presence on Tumblr, but proof that the actors are close in real life is hard to come by.
In this week’s Glee Season 4, Episode 20: "Lights Out," the show’s writers seemed to imply that Darren and Chris don’t even like to be in the same room together. What? Say it isn’t true.
The scene in question happened at Vogue.com, while returning guest star Sarah Jessica Parker (Isabelle) was on the phone with an attendee for her charity event.
“Oh, that’s perfect. Thanks, Darren,” she says into the phone. “I appreciate it. Oh, and um, listen: You’re at my table, seated next to Christopher, so be nice. Bye.”
Kurt, standing nearby, gives her an Oh, that’s awkward-sort of smile. “Darren...?” he asks, with a slight smile on his face.
“Aronofsky,” Isabelle replies, referring to the director of Black Swan. “Christopher Nolan [director of The Dark Knight Rises” Kurt smiles, gives her a knowing look, and nods his head.
We love the obvious reference to the actors who play Kurt and Blaine, but we’re a little worried about the writer’s implication that Darren and Chris sort of can’t stand each other in real life. If you follow both actors on Twitter, it appears they don’t really spend time together outside of work. But is that really enough to assume they aren’t close? We don’t think so.
What would you say: Are Glee writers trying to slip hints to the viewers, or is that reading way too far into things?
