Kyle Richards Talks Real Housewives Divorce Curse: It’s Not the Shows’ Fault
Kyle Richards arguably has one of the most enviable marriages of any of the Real Housewives shows. She and Mauricio Umansky have been happily married for 17 years, and the couple appear to have a rock-solid relationship, even in the face of random cheating rumors.
E! News asked Kyle about the Housewives franchise’s high divorce rate. For example, Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Porsha Stewart recently split from hubby Kordell Stewart.
After expressing her condolences over Porsha’s divorce, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star said people should not blame reality shows when a marriage ends.
“My husband and I have a really strong solid marriage,” Kyle said. “Lisa [Vanderpump] and Ken have a very strong, solid marriage, but I think if you have any cracks in your marriage then you really shouldn't do a reality show. Because it will not survive.”
Being in the spotlight can certainly exacerbate existing issues in any relationship. Kyle Richards even went so far as to say that some women might use the show as a way to get out of their unhappy marriages.
“They're not happy to begin with and they think, ‘Oh I'm going to gain some independence and do the show and this is going to be my out,' and that's why you see so many divorces,” Kyle said. “It's not that the show is causing these divorces.”
Do you agree with Kyle, or do you think the Real Housewives shows really do have a hand in breaking up marriages?
