Why the American Idol Results ‘Twist’ Screwed Candice and Amber
On American Idol 2013 last week, none of the Top 4 were sent home. So what happened to the millions of votes cast for the finalists? Well, they didn’t vanish into thin air. Host Ryan Seacrest announced on the American Idol results show that all the votes would be kept and added to the next week’s tally.
This could end up being a very bad thing for Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb, the two ladies who ended up in the bottom two for the week.
On the surface, it seems like no big deal that the votes carried over in this new American Idol twist. After all, the voters will probably vote kind of the same way this week as they did last week, right? Well, that’s not necessarily true.
What if Candice Glover gives another performance so amazing that Randy Jackson passes out under the American Idol judges table and has to be revived by paramedics? Well, it doesn’t matter how many votes Candice might get for nearly killing a judge with her voice — she’d still be dragged way down by the deficit from last week when she was in the bottom two.
As the good folks over at AmericanIdolNet.com note, Candice Glover and Amber Holcomb “can’t just do better than Angie and Kree next week. They’ll have to do a lot better.” But can they?
We somehow think based on what we’ve seen from the voters so far this season, it is very likely Candice and Amber will end up as the bottom two in the American Idol results again this week. However, if one of them did manage to basically achieve superstardom in an instant on the stage this week, it would probably take a miracle for their combined votes to overcome the combined votes for Kree or Angie.
If Candice and Amber do end up as the bottom two again, we’re just hoping the voters agree with us that while Amber is an amazing singer — Candice is the far superior all around performer and deserves to make the final three.
