Arm Lift Surgery Is on the Rise Thanks to Michelle Obama
No matter how many times that we dreamed we had the First Lady’s amazingly toned and strong-looking arms, we never thought we’d be able to do enough dumbbell curls and kettlebell swings to get anything resembling her beautiful limbs.
Then we found out about this exciting, and somewhat alarming, new trend in cosmetic surgery. It seems that more and more women are “arming themselves” by getting upper arm lifts specifically to look more like Michelle Obama. They’re even requesting “Obama Arms”!
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons — or ASPS — released these statistics Monday that show a huge increase in women getting the procedure. For example: In 2000, 338 women got arm lifts, compared to more than 15,000 of the lifts performed last year.
Why the sudden popularity of the arm area? As ASPS Public Education Committee Chair David Reath said in a recent press release, "I think we are always affected by the people that we see consistently, either on the big screen or on TV. We see them and think, 'Yeah, I'd like to look like that.'"
Although the cost and recovery time for an arm lift are nothing to sneeze at, getting the whole thing handled by a skilled surgeon would eliminate the need for all that weight lifting. Hmmm.
Who knows? Looking as fabulous as Ms. Obama does in sheath dresses might actually be worth it.
