Downton Abbey’s Lily James to Star in Disney’s New Cinderella Film
Life is a fairy tale for a certain Downton Abbey star.
Lily James, who plays Lady Rose MacClare on the British drama series, has just been cast as Cinderella in an upcoming Disney film, according to The Wrap.
The live-action film, entitled — wait for it! — Cinderella, will be directed by Thor director Kenneth Branagh.
Lily will be up against a formidable opponent in the film, as the imposing Cate Blanchett will play her evil stepmother.
Lily got her first big break with a role in British series Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
She also had a role in the 2012 film Wrath of the Titans.
This film will continue Hollywood's recent love of turning public domain properties — for example, books and fairy tales that can be adapted without paying for the rights — into major films.
Recent hits following this mold include Oz the Great and Powerful, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Alice in Wonderland. Not faring quite so well were Red Riding Hood and Mirror Mirror.
So do you think Lily will make a good Cinderella?
And don't worry — we'll keep you posted on whether "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" will be sung in the film.
