“Yeah, it was my fault. It was my infection. I put my hands in those patients and they died. I operated on them and they died,” she says in between tears. “A son and a mother and a teacher... I knew their families and they all died because of me.”
Though Bailey is likely most comforted by her husband, she has a team of doctor friends who are trying to help, too. Sadly, she won’t let them in, physically locking them out of the lab while she hides and works.
The second part of the clip shows Meredith trying to help her, knocking on the door of the lab and peering in as she says, “I don’t know what’s going on with you, but you need to stop it. You need to stop.”
When that doesn’t work, the Grey Sloan Memorial docs — including Derek, Arizona, Callie, Cristina, Meredith, and Jackson — wait outside of the bathroom for her, staging an intervention. Mostly it includes everyone talking at her as she ignores them, with Meredith claiming, “Avery wants to apologize … he screwed up, he knows that, he should have your back.” (Naturally, Avery adds that they “all want to apologize,” not just him.)
Derek is the last person to try to get through to her, reasoning that when he’s angry, he usually hangs out in the woods and drinks himself into a stupor, but that it doesn’t work. “Bailey, we need you,” he pleads. “This hospital does not work without you.”
But what does she do in response? You’ll have to watch the clip below to find out what happens.
