If you answered “professional siren,” “flower merchant,” or “bridal stylist,” well, you’re more than a little bit correct about Desiree Hartsock’s job. In fact, although the whole point of being the Bachelorette is to find love, Des will also get paid a hefty sum to hand out roses on the ABC show this year.
Just how much? We don’t know exactly, but past seasons have scored the lady of the hour a pretty penny (or few million of em). In fact, last season’s Bachelorette, Emily Maynard, made a reported $250,000 to be on the show — which was 2.5 times what Season 7’s Ashley Hebert scored with her own $100K. So, while we don’t know if Des is getting the same treatment for her stint, we’d say it’s a safe bet she’ll be able to afford a few bolts of selvage for her IRL job: bridal stylist.
Yep, it seems Alanis-Morissette-ironic that Des left her job as a bridal stylist and designer to go in search of a groom — and that she designed her own premiere night cocktail party gown, only to be upstaged by a girl in, um, a wedding dress. It was like rain on Des’s wedding day. But now that she’s back in business (see above paragraph, for realz), she’s put her career on hold to focus on love.
Post-Bachelorette, we can see her starting a career designing dresses for future Bachelor ladies-in-waiting, Bachelorettes, and Chris Harrison’s lady-shaped body pillows (stuffed entirely with roses, obvi).
