Nick Cannon on Mariah Carey Leaving American Idol: “It’s Idol’s Loss”
Nick Cannon needs a lesson in coming off sounding less defensive, especially when it comes to his pop star wife, Mariah Carey. Amidst rumors that the folks behind American Idol approached Jennifer Lopez and asked her to replace Mimi mid-season, Nick chose to use the opportunity to brag about his wife.
“My wife is the biggest superstar in the world,” he told Life & Style Magazine. As for where the story began, he said, “These rumors come from anywhere.”
The couple, who just celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at a closed-to-the-public Disneyland, certainly stand by one another (when not mugging for their many pics on Instagram).
Interestingly enough, Nick talks about Mariah’s stint on the show in the past tense, telling Life & Style, “I know she had a wonderful time on Idol.”
He seemed to choose his words carefully, taking jabs at the show by saying, “I know my wife is so focused on her real career of being a singer and her new album that is coming out, which is incredible.” Oh, this wasn’t part of her “real” career then? Interesting...
Showing just how much the seemingly inevitable fate of Mariah is a bitter pill for Nick to swallow, particularly since he was the one who convinced her to do the show, he said, “To me, it sounds like it’s Idol’s loss.”
Nick seems to have confirmed what we’ve suspected all along — Mariah’s time with American Idol appears to be a “one and done!” What do you think of this news?
