Once Upon a Time Season 2 Spoilers: Will We See What the “Fail-Safe” Does?
Once Upon a TimeSeason 2, Episode 20: "The Evil Queen" introduced a new plot device: the black diamond, a curse fail-safe that apparently has the power to wipe Storybrooke (and all of the people in it) off of the map. Will we actually get to see the black diamond in action?

“We’re definitely going to see what that black diamond does,” OUAT co-creator Edward Kitsis told TV Line.
Yikes! That does not sound good for the people of Storybrooke. Would the show really be willing to erase its hometown completely? It would certainly explain a trip to Neverland (Marooners’ Rock is starting to sound much homier), the “sobering moment” that brings some unlikely characters together, and the hint that there are big changes headed our way
With Regina and the black diamond currently in the clutches of Greg and Tamara, we could see things going very wrong very quickly. Maybe Storybrooke really will go the way of the dinosaurs.
There’s also a chance the black diamond could be shown in action in a flashback or in another location. We’re not exactly sure how it works. Is there a chance that it can be applied to places that haven’t suffered from the curse? Probably not, but with this show, you never know.
Plus, it's (presumably) not like Regina has tested this curse out a lot in the past. It's also possible she (or someone else) will trigger the fail-safe, only to find out it doesn't work exactly the way she thought.
