Teen Girl Goes Above and Beyond to Give Autistic Boy the Perfect Prom

Some stories are so heartwarming they just make you say, “Awww...” This is one of them!

In a story that is going viral on Facebook, the father of a high school junior writes about his son Jon and his amazing prom date. It sounds like the typical prom story, but it isn’t. High school senior Maddie contacted her friend Jon’s parents and asked permission to take him to the prom. She wanted to ask their permission because Jon is autistic.

Maddie and Jon reportedly met when the two of them were grouped together in a club that pairs kids with special needs with kids without them. As Maddie apparently explained to Jon’s mom, “He’s a junior. So it’s his prom too. I just think he should have the chance to go.”

Jon and his parents of course said yes, and Maddie set about learning even more about Jon to make his night special. She got an orange dress, because that’s Jon’s favorite color, and found out his favorite foods, so they could go to a restaurant that he liked.

The fact that this 17-year-old, or any teenager for that matter, went out of her way for such a major event like senior prom — a pretty defining experience in anyone’s life — with someone who has special needs is pretty wonderful.

We hope Maddie and Jon had a great time at the dance. They reportedly went with a group of friends, and we are sure that they created some wonderful memories that will last both of them a lifetime.
