Which Was Your Favorite American Idol 2013 Top 4 Performance? 5/1/2013
Viewers were surprised last week when none of the American Idol 2013 Top 4 contestants was sent home.
All four ladies lived to sing another day, but which was your favorite performance of the night? Tonight, the Top 4 sang took on songs from the present and past, choosing one hit from 2013 and one standard classic.
Angie Miller started off the night with a special arrangement of Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” While the judges usually love anything she plays on the piano, they weren’t wild about her version of the song. Later, she took on George and Ira Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me” with more success. The judges agreed her vocals were great, and Mariah Carey particularly loved the song choice.
Amber Holcomb started off on similarly shaky ground, starting with her version of Pink’s “Just Give Me a Reason.” Nicki Minaj didn’t feel like Amber connected with the song, and Randy Jackson agreed. Amber admitted she didn’t know the song very well to begin with. But she redeemed herself with a reprise of “My Funny Valentine,” which she’s sung for the judges before. They judges loved her passion and praised how emotionally vulnerable she was during the performance.
The first contestant to win over the judges this evening was Candice Glover, who started with Bruno Mars’s “When I Was Your Man,” an unorthodox choice that paid off. She later blew everyone away with her take on Billie Holiday's “You’ve Changed,” receiving a standing ovation for her effort.
Surprisingly, Kree Harrison struggled to win the judges’ favor more than usual. They liked her her version of Carrie Underwood’s “See You Again,” but they scratched their heads over her second choice of “Stormy Weather.” Randy and guest mentor Harry Connick Jr. disagreed over which version of the song Kree should have modeled her performance after. In the end, Keith said Kree should continue to follow her instincts more in the future.
