After last night's devastating result show, "Every Man Should Know" singer Harry Connick, Jr. revealed that he has been asked about sitting on the judging panel — and we thought you should know. We'd love to see him join the American Idol 2014 judges, but what does he think about the idea?
In an interview with E! News, the crooner said, "It's a fun show. It's been talked about before, who knows what'll happen in the future. What I've done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I've had a great time."
The before Harry is referring to would be back in 2009 when he served as a mentor, way back in season 9.
"The last time I was here, I was so flattered that they were kind of talking about it," he said. "And it didn't work out. There were a lot of things going on on their side and a lot of things going on on my side with just stuff. It's hard to make a commitment like that."
But is it even possible for Harry to put his career on hold and join the judging for next season?
It doesn’t look like it, especially since he has an album coming out June 11 and will be on tour later this year.
Bummer. But here’s what Harry, a longtime fan of the show, said he would bring to the gig: "I think you need to be completely honest, and I think you need to be diplomatic," he said. "I think there's no reason to be mean, but it is called being a 'judge.' You have to judge. That's what you do."
With as rich a history of swapping out judges as American Idol has, who knows if we’ll see Harry on the judging panel next year. But we can dream, right?
