Back in Glee’s Season 4 Christmas episode,Burt Hummel (Mike O’Malley) made the shocking announcement that was battling prostate cancer. His son Kurt (Chris Colfer) was floored by the announcement, and it’s caused a huge amount of stress — both for the fictional Glee characters, and for hoards of fans who pretty universally think of Burt Hummel as the greatest father on the face of the planet.
In the time since Glee’s Christmas episode, Burt has been undergoing an aggressive cancer treatment plan. He’s changed his diet, and otherwise done pretty much everything he can to fight the disease.
In May 2’s Season 4, Episode 21: "Wonder-ful," Kurt came back to Ohio to join his father at a follow-up doctor's appointment to hear the results. Luckily, the news couldn’t have been better — Burt Hummel is officially cancer-free!
“Whatever you were doing, it worked,” the doctor tells him. “Your cancer is gone.” Burt’s in remission, and his family couldn’t be happier about it.
“I just, I just wasn’t ready to leave you guys yet,” he says, tearfully hugging his son, Kurt, and his wife, Carole. His stepson, Finn (Cory Monteith), is noticeably missing... but that’s only because actor Cory Monteith was in rehab at the time this episode was filmed.
“I love you guys, I love you guys,” Burt says. “I don’t have cancer.” We couldn’t be happier to hear this good news.
