Chris Kelly’s Mentor Jermaine Dupri: I Wish I Could Have Saved Him
Those close to Kris Kross rapper Chris Kelly, who passed away this week at age 34, are wishing they could have done more to help him.
Famed music producer Jermaine Dupri, who helped discover Kris Kross, wishes he had known about Chris's alleged drug issues, according to Us Weekly.
"If I would have known, I would have tried to put my foot forward to help the situation," Jermaine says.
"I'm hearing about this just like everybody else and I'm not really too believing of all of it, but at the same time, I can't say that I didn't know," he says. "I wasn't there to know about it, and I hate it because I feel like if there were people around and knew about it, then they should have waved the flag."
Police reports have revealed that Chris apparently used cocaine and heroin on the night before his death.
Jermaine founded So So Def Records and was only 18 when he discovered Kris Kross.
"He was just a natural kid, like a person that you want to be around at all times because he would never not want to be doing anything," Jermaine adds.
Other celebs are remembering their time with Chris, including TLC member Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas.
"I used to hang out at his house with his mom and pick him up," she says. "He was like a teenager and just the sweetest thing, just a regular cool teenage boy, so we were really close and then the last time I saw him was last year at a concert."
Our thoughts go out to anyone who was close to Chris.
