Lil Wayne Fired as Mountain Dew Spokesperson for Offensive Lyrics

Someone will no longer be doing the Dew.

Lil Wayne has been fired as a Mountain Dew spokesperson for his controversial song lyrics about the late Emmett Till, according to TMZ.

The rapper had appeared in several commercials for the soft drink, beginning in early 2012.

It is not yet known when the ads will stop running.

Controversy started brewing in February over a lyric in the song "Karate Chop," in which Lil Wayne compares Emmett Till's beating to rough sex.

"Pop a lot of pain pills, 'bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels ... beat that p***y up like Emmett Till," Lil Wayne raps.

Back in 1955, Emmett was 14 years old when he was beaten, shot, and dumped in a river for supposedly flirting with a white woman. It became a major issue in the Civil Rights movement.

Wayne had previously sent Emmett's family a letter to smooth things over, but the family rejected the letter, claiming that it "falls short of an apology."

Apparently, the controversy was too big of a mountain for Mountain Dew to climb.
