Lauryn Hill Releases New Song, Evades Nearly Million Dollar Debt
Lauryn Hill may have made herself a household name with her work as a member of the Fugees, but, apparently, royalties don’t pay the bills. Or, more specifically, she doesn’t pay the bills, especially when they come from Uncle Sam.
Despite her past issues with the government, the "Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" singer has reportedly settled her bill $900,000 bill with the IRS, just hours before she was scheduled to arrive in court today on tax evasion charges.
Lauryn, who has mostly faded from the public eye in recent years, proved that, while she may have lost her cash, she hasn’t lost her feisty spirit.
Mentioning that she was "'required' to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline" her new single, "Neurotic Society," Lauryn added, "I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there. In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!”
We’re sure Lauryn's had a lot on her plate recently, but it seems as if she only spent as much time recording as she did issuing press releases, she might have settled this debt back when we were still jamming to "That Thing."
