Chris Pine on Playing Gay Characters: “I Just Want to Play Good Roles”
Chris Pine wants his career to live long and prosper — so does that rule out playing a gay character?
Actually, the Star Trek hottie says that his characters' sexuality does not make any difference to him, according to Out magazine.
“Right now, I just want to play good roles, and if the role happens to be a gay man, that’s not of any import other than is it a good story?" Chris says. "Does it say something that’s interesting?”
Chris is mainly known for action roles, like This Means War and Unstoppable, and he has a feeling that a blockbuster like one of those could soon feature a gay lead.
“All it really takes is the fact that the man isn’t going home to his wife, but has a boyfriend at home,” Chris continues. “I think it would be a wonderful thing to see.”
Chris says he was hoping to star in Ryan Murphy's upcoming film adaptation of The Normal Heart, which would have been a gay role, but his schedule wouldn't allow it. The film is now set to star Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons, and Mark Ruffalo.
“I would have done that in a f**king heartbeat,” he says. Sounds pretty emphatic to us.
Just out of curiosity, could Chris Pine get any more perfect? We think not.
