The Voice 2013: Best Performance From the Season 4 Live Shows, May 6, 2013 (VIDEO)

Despite the fact that the majority of last night’s song choices on The Voice 2013 made us cringe, the passion and conviction from each artist made the live shows a worthwhile watch. But seriously, Usher, “I Have Nothing”? “Against All Odds”? “True Colors”? It’s like the R&B superstar watched old episodes of every music competition show and picked the most cliché ones possible. What’s next? “I Will Always Love You”? “I Believe I Can Fly”?

Trite choices aside, the first night of live shows was filled with immense talent and exceptional performances from eight of the 16 remaining contestants. Team Adam Levine and Team Usher sang their hearts out for a chance at moving on in the competition.

Adam Levine clearly has the strongest artists on the show with country artist Amber Carrington starting off the night strong. This little lady has impressed us time and time again with her creative song choices and pure belts. The power in her voice might carry her all the way.

Usher’s Josiah Hawley actually has his best performance to date singing MUSE’s “Starlight.” He was finally able to charm his way into our hearts using his voice, not his dazzling looks.

But the best performance of the night has to go to Team Usher’s Michelle Chamuel. The awkward-yet-enthusiastic rocker is used to singing high-energy song as she jumps around the stage. So when Michelle stood still and sang the ballad “True Colors” her vulnerability provided one of the most endearing moments the show has seen this season.
