105-Year-Old Woman Swears Bacon Is the Key to a Long Life

Pearl Cantrell must be in love with the sudden upswing in bacon-inspired products these past few years. Everything from bacon mints to bacon Band-Aids have made their mark on the novelty list commemorating the deliciously greasy cured meat, but Pearl says it’s the original recipe that has helped her live to be 105.

“I don’t feel as old as I am,” Pearl tells KHOU, “that’s all I can say.”

The Raw Story reports that Pearl recently celebrated her 105th birthday in style over a stretch of three days and with almost 200 guests to wish her well. She even got a visit from Oscar Meyer’s Weinermobile after spilling the (pork and) beans about her secret. Of course, they brought along a few packages of their best bacon as a present.

“We’ve seen a lot of stories on the road, but nothing quite like this one, so we’re excited to be here,” an Oscar Meyer spokesperson told Big Country Homepage. “We know she’s an inspiration. Pearl is an inspiration for the community, and her friends and family. So we had to make a special stop here for her today.”

It totally makes sense that flavored novelties wouldn’t act the same as their inspiration, but we wonder if just any old pork products would help at all? We love ham and cheese sandwiches and we think we’ve been doing alright.

Congrats Pearl! Regardless of the life benefits, we say keep munching on those crispy strips if that’s what makes you happy.
