American Idol 2014 Judges Dream Team Includes Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez?
Producers are reportedly planning a big shakeup at the American Idol judges’ table, and the names they are allegedly batting around are bigger than big.
According to Radar Online, an insider claims Nigel Lythgoe et. al. have approached what they’re calling a “dream team” — Justin Bieber, his on-again/off-again girl Selena Gomez, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and P!nk. What happened to that rumor that the show was going to get away from the big names and choose lesser known stars so as to focus on the talent? Yeah, that.
“It’s been a lackluster season for Idol and everyone involved with the show is well aware of it so that’s why producers are franticly [sic] working on lining up big name stars for season 14,” the source told Radar. The insider goes on to say, “There’s more drama going on behind the scenes of the show than on the stage, and that’s why there’s a major overhaul in the works. A telling sign was that the highlight of the season was Mariah and Nicki’s explosive feud that was leaked on the web — and that was before the season even aired.”
The source implies that producers have been attempting to recreate that preseason buzz, but the viewers aren’t buying what they’re selling. As the insider puts it, “The judges don’t have real chemistry, and there’s no real standout contestant.” Hey, we definitely agree when it comes to the judges but we beg to differ when it comes to the contestants!
!nk was reportedly approached in the past but turned it down (which we can totally see) and Diddy was apparently game but way too expensive. This latest report implies the producers are now prepared to spare no expense at the judges table. The source doesn’t pull any punches in saying, “It will cost a fortune to get them, but the show has gotten so stale that Fox is desperate for a revamp – they’re willing to pay to put Idol back on top.”
The insider claims this is such a “powerhouse group” that the producers think everyone will tune in to see them. What do you think?
