True Blood Author Charlaine Harris Feels “Anxiety” Over Fan Threats

We know True Blood fans are devoted, but this is taking it a bit too far! Charlaine Harris, author of The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels used as source material for HBO’s True Blood, has actually received truly scary threats over the ending of her Sookie Stackhouse series. C’mon y’all, really?

All good things must eventually come to an end. Thankfully it isn’t time for that to be true for HBO’s hit vampire series True Blood just yet, but the original novels that inspired the show are finally reaching a conclusion. Charlaine Harris has decided it is time to move on, but fans of her vampire novels aren’t quite ready to let go.

The thirteenth book in the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Dead Ever After, was just released in stores. While many fans are, of course, thrilled to finally have the last novel in the series in hand, not everyone is so pleased.

“I’m very fortunate that people are so invested in the series,” Harris told the Wall Street Journal. “At the same time, it can be a source of some anxiety to get emails that say, ‘If Sookie doesn’t end up with Eric, I’m going to kill myself.’”

Charlaine Harris is so bothered by the actions of some rabid True Blood fans that she’s decided not to tour to promote the final Sookie Stackhouse novel, according to the WSJ. Apparently she just doesn’t want to deal with more threats, nasty comments about how she decided to end the series, or constant nagging to write spinoffs. That’s just sad!

No matter how Dead Ever After ends, we’ll stand by Charlaine for all of the amazing stories she has given us for so many years — and the delicious HBO True Blood series that sprang from her work. Thank you Charlaine for thirteen amazing novels!
